We figured that subject line that we love toll roads might get ya!
News Flash!
- 30,000 more cars and trucks on
- Mopac every day!
- Mopac converted to I-35 West!
This is what happens if local and state officials spend hundreds of millions of our tax dollars connecting South Mopac to I-35 and expanding Mopac from Cesar Chavez to the Wildflower Center.
TOGETHER WE CAN STOP THIS BACKDOOR CONVERSION
OF MOPAC INTO INTERSTATE 35 WEST – no toll roads please!
Go to KeepMopacLocal.org today to learn more and send one email to local and state officials to tell them to put the brakes on the backdoor conversion of Mopac and to Keep Mopac Local.
Currently, with limited access at the south end, Mopac primarily serves local commuters. But many of our local and state officials are rushing to convert Mopac to a western I-35 loop – only they don’t want you to know about it until it’s too late.
By chopping up the I-35-to-Mopac loop into several pieces, and pretending they aren’t all one project, the toll road authority (CTRMA) and many of our elected officials are rushing to dump tens of thousands of more cars onto South Mopac by building the proposed SH 45 SW aquifer toll road first.
At the same time, their deceptively named Mopac South project would extend north of the lake, adding up to four to six more lanes on Mopac, all the way across Lady Bird Lake, through our parks, and past Austin High.
Now is the time to tell our officials to come clean about the proposal to convert Mopac to an alternative I-35.
Tell them to keep I-35 traffic off of Mopac and the Barton Springs Recharge Zone.
Urge them to spend our limited transportation dollars on projects that reduce congestion, not make it worse – and that help us build a sustainable city in the face of a changing climate.
Now, do the deed Austin. Contact your officials right here — it’ll take you a few seconds.
Thank you Austin!
